How we correct an article

When a factual error changes the meaning of a story, we correct the text and add a note explaining the material change. The article retains its original web address and publication date; its update date reflects the correction.

Minor spelling and formatting fixes may be made without a correction note. New developments are identified as updates so readers can distinguish them from corrections to earlier reporting.

A complaint or disagreement does not by itself establish an error. We check the specific facts and explain the outcome when responding.
